The government of Barbados issued a hurricane watch for Dominica and the French government issued a tropical storm watch for Martinique, Guadeloupe, St. Martin and St. Barthelemy, according to the National Hurricane Center. No no watches or warning are now in effect for the U.S. Mainland, but Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect for the deep offshore waters.

As of 8 a.m. Sunday, Chris was about 150 miles off the coast of Cape Hatteras, N.C. with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center. Earlier, they had expected strong wind shear to weaken the storm before it neared the Lesser Antilles. "Interests elsewhere in the Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic should monitor the progress of Beryl". Impacts could include life-threatening surf and rip current conditions affecting portions of the coast from North Carolina through the mid-Atlantic into early next week. Dominica was hit by Hurricane Maria previous year as a Category 5 storm and hasn't fully recovered.

"If #Chris becomes a hurricane as forecast, it will be the second hurricane in July", Brian McNoldy, Capital Weather Gang's tropical weather expert, noted on Twitter.

The storm is expected to degenerate into a trough of low pressure by Sunday evening as it moves into the Caribbean Sea.

National Hurricane Center has released the latest full report for Hurricane Beryl Saturday morning and shows the system is beginning the forecasted turn to the west-northwest at 14 miles per hour. Chris has not become much more organized since yesterday, however, the winds have increased slightly from 35mph to 40mph (39mph is the minimum for a Tropical Storm). Lojero also warned that the storm is expected to dump up to four inches (10 centimeters) of rain and could unleash landslides.

It said additional intensification could occur by the end of the forecast period when the cyclone moves northeastward away from the USA coast and interacts with a mid-level trough.

Tropical Storm Chris is seen off the U.S. East Coast on Sunday morning.

Farther out in the tropics Beryl continues to gradually weaken with winds now down to 50 miles per hour with gusts up to 60mph.
