President Donald Trump voiced support Tuesday for USA intelligence agencies, a day after he refused to accept their findings on Russia's election meddling over the denials of Russian President Vladimir Putin, and vowed to take action to prevent further interference.

But while the USA leader expressed his "full faith and support for America's great intelligence agencies", he insisted that "Russia's actions had no impact at all on the outcome of the election". "There was no collusion at all".

United States intelligence agencies concluded previous year that the Russian government interfered in the 2016 election campaign and sought to tilt the vote in Trump's favour, which Moscow has denied.

Earlier Tuesday, House Republicans have used a party-line vote to block a Democratic measure aimed at condemning President Donald Trump's stunning comments in Helsinki, Finland, about Russian Federation.

On Tuesday, the president said that he had meant to say "I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be; sort of a double negative", but ended up saying "would" instead of "wouldn't". Could be other people also.

Now in Washington, Trump is attempting to deny the substance of what he said.

Republican lawmakers including House Speaker Paul Ryan, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce, and Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Corker all publicly criticized Trump for his performance.

His comment came - amid rising rebuke by his own party - about 27 hours after his original, widely reported statement, which he made at a Monday summit in Helsinki standing alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The political firestorm over his performance at the Helsinki news conference has engulfed the administration and spread to his fellow Republicans, eclipsing most of the frequent controversies that have erupted during Trump's turbulent 18 months in office. "Yes, I wanted him to win because he spoke of normalization of Russian-U.S. ties", Putin said. A Trump nominee, Coats, did not even wait for the president's return.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling and possible collusion with the Trump campaign has increasingly put pressure on the White House, and the president - who regards it as an attack on his legitimacy - has dubbed it a "witch hunt".

Trump's initial remarks Monday spurred a flurry of critical reactions from Republicans and Democrats, with some of the latter reacting to the press conference with calls for impeachment.

Trump also said he believes that Russian meddling took place in the 2016 presidential election, but that it did not change the election's outcome. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) continued to defend the president on Tuesday by blasting "ridiculous" calls for Trump's national security team to testify in wake of the explosive summit. "I want [allies] to understand that, in this country, there are lot people in both parties who believe that these alliances painstakingly built in the wake of the end of World War II are important and we want to maintain them".

"As I said today and many times before, 'I have GREAT confidence in MY intelligence people, '" Trump said.

Trump still maintained that his meetings with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies went well and his summit with Putin "even better". On Tuesday, Trump thanked Paul by tweeting "you really get it!" He just said it's not Russian Federation.
