After a week of walkbacks, Trump returns to Russian Federation doubting

He also tweeted, "The release of the Carter Page FISA application makes clear, once again, the Federal Bureau of Investigation acted lawfully and appropriately".

In more than 400 pages made public Saturday as a result of a Freedom of Information request by media outlets, and first reported by the New York Times, the government laid out its case for secretly monitoring Page in a series of Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act - or FISA - warrants, each of which was approved by the FISA court.

It does have some information about Page's activities, which included a July 2016 trip to Russia in which Page was accused in the opposition research dossier of having met with a top Russian energy official, something Page denies.

The 412-page document [PDF] (which is actually four warrant applications and their accompanying court orders) detail the FBI's surveillance of Carter Page, alleged agent of a foreign power.

On Monday, President Trump tweeted that the heavily redacted materials show that the Steele "dossier" was a major component of the 2016 FISA (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) court surveillance warrant.

Judicial Watch now is arguing "to date, no transcripts of hearings regarding applications for or renewal of FISA warrants related to Page have been released to the public".

On Sunday, Rubio, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, disagreed with Trump's conclusion that the Page wiretap was intended as a means of conducting surveillance on the Republican's presidential campaign.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller is investigating potential collusion between Russian Federation and Trump's campaign.

Trump steps up pressure, but Iran says it’s ‘unimpressed’
European Union nations are looking at keeping financial channels open for Iran when the U.S. sanctions hit full force in November. Barring major domestic disturbances, Iran is preparing for a head-on confrontation, if only an economic one.

The released documents showed that the allegations of Nunes et.al. were untrue: The warrant applications were based on FBI investigations; Page is described as "collaborating and conspiring with the Russian government".

Nunes explained that relying on the unverified dossier, who suggests that Russian Federation holds compromising information on President Trump, is a cause for concern.

Trump also continued to tweet Sunday about the document's release, quoting Fox News' Pete Hegseth and Andrew McCarthy. On Sunday, he told CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union", "I've never been an agent of a foreign power by any stretch of the imagination".

President Donald Trump continues to deny any collaboration with the Russian government.

The FBI released the previously secret document cache on Saturday night following Freedom of Information requests by several USA organisations.

"So we now find out that it was indeed the unverified and Fake Dirty Dossier, that was paid for by Crooked Hillary Clinton and the DNC, that was knowingly & falsely submitted to FISA and which was responsible for starting the totally conflicted and discredited Mueller Witch Hunt!"

US President Donald Trump called once again Monday for an end to special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into Russian Federation interference in the 2016 election, insisting it has been "discredited". "I think he's said it about a thousand times". Release of the documents comes just over one week after Special Counsel Robert Mueller, probing possible collusion between Trump's 2016 campaign and Russia, indicted 12 Russian intelligence officers, accusing them of hacking Democratic challenger Hillary Clinton's campaign to steal documents, which were then publicly released. I will say this: "I don't see any reason why it would be", the president said last Monday. FISA applications include matters that by their very nature implicate sources and methods of intelligence gathering, and anyone who has worked in this field knows that even discussing the existence of a FISA warrant is forbidden.
