Starting next year, the ceremony will now be shown in what the Academy describes as "a more globally accessible, three-hour telecast".
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Academy's board of governors came together on Tuesday to figure out how they can add some pep to their golden-glazed step for a culture that changes rapidly by the hour.
In order to fit in all 24 award categories, some will be presented during commercial breaks with the winning moments edited and aired later in the broadcast.
While none of the 24 awards will be axed completely some will be shifted to commercial breaks.
The Academy's new Oscars popular film category isn't so popular. The 92nd Oscars telecast will move to Sunday, February 9, 2020, from the previously announced February 23.

It also clocked it at almost 4 hours, making it the longest show in over a decade. After that, however, expanding the Best Picture field has largely just meant adding more indies that no one's seen to the lineup.
Films like Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Deadpool 2, Mission: Impossible - Fallout, and others are likely candidates, films that typically would score nominations for things like art, set design, costume design, and other categories but not for things like best film, best actor/actress, etc. While the details of this new category have not been disclosed yet, it's safe to assume that nominees will be films that managed to please not only critics, but audiences as well.
"Here's the ten highest-grossing films, when accounting for inflation aka America's most "popular" films," Palotta wrote. Would they have been too popular for the official Best Picture category? "Popular films are films!"
However, the three-hour telecast means select categories will not air live. As THR notes, this is probably an attempt to make the Oscars seem more relevant, instead of taking place right at the end of the months-long awards circuit.
