Sarri learns lessons from Chelsea's opening win at Huddersfield

For Chelsea some players have only just arrived.

Part of that was down to the quality of Huddersfield's press, a positive sign for David Wagner's side after the more passive approach of last season, but Sarri's side didn't take care of the ball as well as their manager would've liked.

Another positive was the performance of Alvaro Morata, much maligned for his form in the second half of last season, and heavily linked with a move away from Chelsea this summer. If you look at the result, you can think about an easy game, but in the first half we were in trouble for 15 minutes against a very physical team. "I think if we play Chelsea at home most people would expect us to concede a defeat, which we've got, and at the end it was a deserved defeat".

"It depends on me and the players".

Both teams pressed for a large portion of the first half, and Sarri said those are the types of situations the team will need to work on.

Sarri acknowledged that his team struggled against Huddersfield in the first half on Saturday because they lacked the tactical grounding is his way of playing to adapt to Huddersfield's back three - a system they hadn't yet faced in pre-season.

Huddersfield enjoyed more possession toward the half-hour mark as Steve Mounie's rising effort cleared the crossbar and a series of crosses from Huddersfield left-back Chris Lowe tested Chelsea's defence. If we are able to play at another speed, maybe scoring will not be a problem for us.

While today's result will be sure to relieve any original doubts over this new look Chelsea side, Sarri was keen to play down the flattering score line.
