First Trailer, Launch Date Set For True Detective Season Three

After the series finale of Sharp Objects last night, HBO dropped a few new teasers to promote their upcoming original lineup, including the first look at True Detective season 3, starring Mahershala Ali (Moonlight).

Nic Pizzolatto, who scripted both the first and second seasons of True Detective has again written eight episodes for the show's third season. In addition to Ali, this season also features Carmen Ejogo, Scoot McNairy, Mamie Gummer, Stephen Dorff, Michael Greyeyes, Jon Tenney, Deborah Ayorinde, Rhys Wakefield, Sarah Gadon, Emily Nelson, Brandon Flynn, Michael Graziadei, Josh Hopkins, Jodi Balfour and Cyborg himself, Ray Fisher.

The long-awaited trailer for True Detective season 3 is here. Unfortunately, the series took a nosedive with the Rachel McAdams-led second season, falling into the sophomore slump and failing to live up to sky-high expectations.

In our first look at where the show is headed after what was seen as a relatively disappointing sophomore season, the Oscar-winning actor certainly showcases the quietly troubled intrigue that made Matthew McConaughey so insanely watchable when the series premiered in 2014. He will co-write the fourth episode with Deadwood creator David Milch and split director duties with Jeremy Saulnier (Blue Ruin, The Green Room) and Daniel Sackheim (The Leftovers, Game of Thrones, The Americans).
