The Spaniard has made rapid progress since linking up with the Blues in a £24 million ($31m) deal back in 2016.

But new manager, Sarri, has offered hope to Loftus-Cheek by hinting that the powerful midfielder will play an important role in his side this season.

PFA Team of the Year recognition has been received, as have further senior global call-ups with Spain.

The 27-year-old had more playing opportunities under Conte, only after he was converted to a right wing-back, but is behind Eden Hazard, Willian and Pedro in Sarri's pecking order of wingers in the new season.

Hazard has been in good form for Maurizio Sarri's side so far this season despite him being one of the latest players to return to Chelsea FC following his involvement in the World Cup with Belgium.

"Physical qualities at a top level, I think". He's doing very well in the offensive phase. I think he needs to improve from the tactical point of view.

'Alonso, at the moment, this position at left-back is maybe the best in Europe, ' said Sarri.

This was hardly a sparkling performance, but showing this kind of resolve to get the points while still adjusting to Sarri's methods will doubtless please their head coach.
