There's $2.4 million remaining on his deal for this season, and the Giants are paying $1.2 million of that, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.

While the New York Yankees are not anxious that Aaron Judge won't make it back to the field at all, whether he'll be 100% when the playoffs come around has come into question recently, and on Thursday evening, the Yankees snapped up the best insurance option available, trading for Andrew McCutchen from the San Francisco Giants.

A person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press on Thursday night the Yankees would send infielder Abiatal Avelino and another minor leaguer to San Francisco for McCutchen.

McCutchen had played in at least 153 games in each of the previous three seasons for the Pirates, batting.279 with 28 home runs and 88 RBIs in 156 games in 2017.

Thus, with Aaron Judge ailing and Giancarlo Stanton in danger of being overworked, the team agreed to a deal to acquire Andrew McCutchen from the Giants. San Francisco tried to deal McCutchen before the July 31 deadline, but were unable to do so.

McCutchen will be with the Yankees for the season's final month and, as it appears likely, the Wild Card game. But he has not been an All-Star since 2015, when he was selected for the fifth straight season.

Trades must be done by Friday in order for players to be eligible for the postseason.

The 23-year-old Avelino was hitting a combined.287 with 15 homers, 66 RBIs and 25 steals at Triple-A and Double-A. The Giants acquired him from the Pirates before the start of the regular season.
