Bears Agree To Acquire Khalil Mack From Raiders

Raiders get 2019 and 2020 first-round picks, a 2020 third-round pick and a 2019 sixth-round pick, according to ESPN.

Oakland exercised the fifth-year option on Mack's contract last summer, worth $13.846 million. In 2019 they would have been required to use the franchise tag if they hoped to continue paying him under the league premium.

But the Bears believed they were poised for bigger things before making the blockbuster trade for Mack.

The two sides apparently couldn't come to an agreement and it became more economical to ship Mack to a different team in exchange for two first-rounders. The Bears took their shot by signing 30-year-old Julius Peppers as a free agent in 2010 and reached the NFC championship game in his first season.

The exact reasons as to why Mack isn't still a Raider have yet to surface. The only three that didn't were Jevon Kearse, Tim Harris, and John Abraham (even though Abraham had three different double-digit sack seasons). He racked up 78 tackles and 10.5 sacks past year, and registered 40.5 sacks in 64 career games with Oakland.

The Raiders will reportedly receive multiple high draft picks, but that's no guarantee of sufficient compensation.

This contract exceeds the six-year, $135 million deal Los Angeles Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald received just a day before.
