According to Georgetown County Coroner Kenny Johnson, 23-year-old Michael Dalton Prince was a passenger in the truck, which lost control on a flooded two-lane road early Sunday.

In Goldsboro, North Carolina, home of Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, roads that frequently flood were already closed Saturday by rushing water.

What Fayetteville is facing with Florence is potentially worse than two years ago with Matthew, when at least four people died as a result of flash flooding.

As of Sunday evening, Florence was centered about 25 miles south-southeast of Greenville, South Carolina, the National Hurricane Center said. It's a slow-moving storm, creeping westward at just 2 miles per hour on Saturday - not even as fast as the average person walks.

It is expected to weaken gradually as it moves inland, heading northwards through the OH valley by Monday.

North Carolina Emergency Management Director Michael Sprayberry said it was too early to estimate how many people in the state would be made homeless by the storm.

Excessive rainfall will contribute to more catastrophic flooding across southeastern and south-central North Carolina and into northeastern SC this weekend.

At 2 a.m. Friday, the city tweeted an ominous message, saying at least 150 people were awaiting rescue.

Authorities ordered the immediate evacuation of up to 7,500 people living within a mile of a stretch of the Cape Fear River and the Little River, about 100 miles from the coast.

The remainder of northern SC into western North Carolina and southwest Virginia could see 5 to 10 inches of rainfall, with some isolated areas seeing 15 inches.

"We are saddened by the sudden passing of one of our community, and our hearts go out to the family and friends who are now grieving during such an already stressful period", Hutcheson said in a statement.

In a separate briefing, Steve Goldstein of the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said some areas have already received two feet of rain and could expect up to 20 inches more as the system moved "slowly, almost stationary" over eastern North Carolina.

Much of eastern North Carolina on Saturday was still reeling from Florence's first powerful punch. Other parts of the Carolinas will be left with up to 20 inches of rain, causing significant river flooding, with some rivers not cresting until later this week.

Heavy rainfall is expected to increase the risk for landslides in southwest Virginia. Trump is expected to visit the areas once the storm weakens and the conditions improve thereafter.
