UFC 229 Pre-Fight Press Conference Follows Its Own Script

Once Conor McGregor eventually arrived at Thursday's news conference to promote his showdown with Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229, he engaged in plenty of his familiar bravado and trash-talking.

Nurmagomedov was once again barracked by a largely pro-McGregor crowd, as he had been at Wednesday's open workouts, and the Irishman suggested that may have been one of the reasons his foe refused to hang around.

Dana White stood at the podium in Park Theater alone as Khabib Nurmagomedov had just left after answering questions for 15 minutes.

McGregor maintained his prediction of a knockout by saying he plans "on knocking that man's nose straight into the nosebleeds" and specifically addressed how he has prepared for Nurmagomedov's dominant wrestling game.

McGregor turned up nearly 25 minutes late for the media conference, about 10 minutes after the Russian champion had left the stage. He should have stayed put.

"That's a sign, he doesn't want to be around me, he doesn't want to be around these people (the crowd)". "I don't think about him". For one thing, every McGregor fight feels like an event, between his fervent fanbase and press conference that are equal parts the ramblings of a madman and a Nardwuar-worthy level of insight into his opponents.

On the other, you have an undefeated fighter who has never lost a single round in his professional career in Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The incident was an apparent retaliation to McGregor's friend and training partner Artem Lobov having an alleged confrontation with Nurmagomedov.

"F-k peace. There will never be peace here".

These two men are going to put it all on the line in the name of both bragging rights and being called the champion, and while many people have different theories regarding which way it's going to go, none of us can know for sure until that cage door shuts on Saturday night. I'm not going to wait.

Nurmagomedov, who is 26-0 and making the first defence of his title on Sunday, believes he's ability to stay composed in the face of McGregor's wild taunting has the former champ anxious.

"I don't know, we'll see what happens", he said. For me, it's personal.

"The Eagle" has gone a ideal 26-0 in his mixed martial arts career and now stands as a slight betting favorite to defeat Conor McGregor this Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena.

"It doesn't offend me one [expletive] bit, because at the end of the day, he's not fighting me, he's fighting Khabib", Abdelaziz added. "This is 3 p.m. Fans is here, media is here, everybody is here", Nurmagomedov said. "If somebody is late, it's not my problem". Why I have to worry about him?
