Bulls trade Holiday to Grizzlies for Brooks, Selden

Brooks, the No. 25 pick by the Celtics in 2011, is averaging 6.6 points in 29 games.

Holiday is on an expiring contract and could be moved again before the February 7 trade deadline as long as his contract is not aggregated with another player. As a result, the hope is that he'll be given an extended look in Chicago, but at this point it's too early to gauge what his role will look like. Selden is averaging 5.4 points in 14.2 minutes over 32 games.

Holiday is now on the backend of a two-year deal with the Bulls, and it expires at the season's end. "Hopefully Wayne can help us shore down that wing defender position as well".

Though Holiday is making a modest $4.4 million this season, dealing two players on minimum-salary contracts for him still pushes Memphis within $500,000 of the luxury-tax line, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks.

The cost to Memphis here is a pair of second-round picks, both of which have a chance to end up in the top half of the round and be reasonably valuable.

What's more is Hutchison could've received more playing time without sending Holiday to the Grizzlies.

From the Bulls' standpoint, this deal was somewhat more straightforward. We lost several cheap assets and managed to get a lot older on an already well-seasoned Memphis roster.

The Bulls also waived Cameron Payne to finalize the trade. Payne was acquired from the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2017 in the deal that the Bulls sent Taj Gibson and Doug McDermott to the Thunder.
