Vodafone is in talks with the company and various agencies and governments, following the pause on buying Huawei equipment for its core network.

"We have chose to pause further Huawei in our core whilst we engage with the various agencies and governments and Huawei", Chief Executive Officer Nick Read said on a call with reporters Friday.

Vodafone chief executive Nick Read said that debate was "too simplistic".

Meanwhile, France is stepping up controls of telecoms infrastructure used in 5G networks, a finance ministry official said, amid growing security concerns over Chinese group Huawei.

The telecoms equipment market is dominated by three companies - Huawei, Finland's Nokia (NOK) and Sweden's Ericsson (ERIC). But the country's IT watchdog says it had seen no evidence Huawei could use its equipment to spy for Beijing.

Vodafone's Read warned that if there were a "complete ban" on all Huawei network equipment, "it would be a huge issue for us and the whole European telecommunications sector" and significantly delay the rollout of 5G networks.

Yu said that despite "political noise" in some countries, Huawei sales outside the United States haven't suffered due to security concerns.

"We have made a decision to pause further Huawei in our core whilst we engage with the various agencies and governments and Huawei just to finalize the situation, of which I feel Huawei is really open and working hard", Read said.
