Second Justin Fairfax accuser comes forward, alleges rape

A second woman has come forward to say that she was raped by Democratic Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax.

The ongoing turmoil in Virginia took yet another turn Friday when Meredith Watson accused Fairfax of rape when they both attended Duke University in 2000.

"I'm here to pass a budget today", he added when pressed as he headed into a Republican Caucus meeting in late morning.

Watson's representatives declined to provide further documentation and said their client would not be talking to journalists.

Tyson, a professor in California, released a lengthy statement early this week detailing her alleged encounter with Fairfax during their time at the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston.

But Meredith Watson has. Mr Fairfax's attack was premeditated and aggressive. Her lawyer also said she shared her account with friends in a string of emails and Facebook messages. According to Watson's statement, the two were friends at Duke but never dated or had a romantic relationship.

Fairfax shot back at his accusers quickly: he said in a statement that he would not resign from office, and vowed to clear his name against what he described as a "vicious and co-ordinated smear campaign" being orchestrated against him. "I will not resign", he said in a statement, calling for a full investigation and noting he has already passed FBI background checks. It is demonstrably false.

"I have never forced myself on anyone". "Nor will I request any other official to resign until it is obvious that they have committed a crime in office or their ability to serve is irredeemably compromised".

But as for Democrats responding to the Fairfax case, "They're doing the opposite, which creates a political problem for the Democrats because not only does Virginia have statewide elections this year, you have the 2020 election coming up", Continetti said.

Given the large number of children exposed to social media, it's refreshing that the group elected to promote a positive message. The big tease with the World Record Egg may be related to Hulu's purchase of a 30-second ad in CBS's Super Bowl LIII broadcast .

The delegation - consisting of the state's two USA senators, Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, and seven U.S. representatives - repeated its call for Northam to resign, and said the allegations against Fairfax "need to be taken very seriously", though it stopped short of demanding a formal investigation.

Note the detail about contemporaneous corroboration.

In a second statement released later Friday, Watson claimed the attack was tied to another rape involving a Duke basketball player that allegedly occurred a year earlier in 1999.

Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (NY) ignored questions, saying only she was trying to figure out where she was going while an aide said they were headed to the floor for a vote.

"She said the alleged assault took place at a fraternity house". He said he didn't know Tyson and only knows what he has read in the paper.

The upper levels of Virgina's government are embroiled in ongoing controversy, with the top three Democrats facing accusations of either racism or sexual assault.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of NY, after calling for an investigation into Tyson's allegations, said the accusation by Watson was "sickening and horrendous" and should end Fairfax's time as lieutenant governor.

Hundreds of academics have also signed a letter in support of Prof Tyson, according to the Times. "Such an investigation will confirm my account because I am telling the truth", Fairfax wrote in a statement.

The accusations against Fairfax rocked an administration that was already struggling amid calls for the resignation of Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam over a racist photo that appeared on his 1984 medical school yearbook page. Northam immediately apologized for the photo, but the next day said he wasn't in the picture - even as he admitted he'd used blackface on a separate occasion to dress as Michael Jackson.
