OPPO: we have a foldable phone too

Unfolding the screen, the Huawei Mate X blossoms into a tablet with an 8.0-inch, 2,480 x 2,200 pixels resolution OLED screen.

When Samsung announced the Galaxy Fold, nearly everyone was really surprised by the phone. It will be the second flagship phone from Samsung to arrive with four rear-mounted cameras after the Galaxy S10 5G that was announced in the previous week. "The Huawei Mate X will be the first key for consumers to open the door to 5G smart living".

Unfortunately, guests at the pre-MWC event were not allowed to handle the device on show, which makes estimations of its actual performance and usability hard at this point. the Mate X will reportedly cost US$2.600 at it's launch, and become available by the second half of 2019.

Rather than spring a half-baked foldable device on consumers, the company's spending more time exploring new form factors a flexible display could enable, like a phone that bends in half like a stack of cash. When closed the front screen measures 6.6 inches, comparing favourably with large non-folding smartphones such as Huawei's Mate 20 Pro.

Samsung has offered a more detailed glimpse of its forthcoming £1,700 foldable smartphone in action. It's a visual reminder that the device you're holding in your hands is essentially a first-gen product that's not quite perfected yet.

Thom Tillis: Will Vote for Block of Trump's Emergency Declaration

Huawei unveils Mate X foldable 5G phone, new MateBook laptops
Huawei calls the Mate X's design " Falcon Wing " and says there are over 100 patented components on the smartphone's hinge. Compared to the Galaxy Fold , the Mate X has some noticeable advantages that make it a more promising foldable phone.

Powered by Huawei's Kirin 980 processor, the device has 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, with a 4,500mAh battery split into two cells, either side of the fold.

Unveiling something a bit different, LG also exhibited the G8 ThinQ, with a front-facing camera called the "Z Camera" which can be controlled without users needing to touch the screen. The Fold X, for comparison, places the screen on the inside, with a secondary screen on the outside for use when the device is shut. As a reminder, some key details about Samsung's foldable: It's got a 7.3-inch display, and it folds down the middle like a book.

The Mate X even features Huawei's Balong 5000 5G modem making it capable of superfast 5G speeds.

If there is anything foldable smartphones so far have shown, it is that they are highly priced.

We told you back in December that Samsung wasn't going to be targeting the mass market with its super-expensive, ultra-luxe Galaxy Fold - the plan here is not for this to be some kind of iPhone-killer from Samsung.

When unfolded, the phone is transformed into a small tablet (like an iPad mini) that gives you a lot more space to work with.
