In Detroit, Flowers will reunite with former Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia, now the Lions' head coach.

Amendola said he definitely knew Quinn as well from their time together in New England.

Amendola, 33, left the New England Patriots last offseason and signed a two-year, $12 million deal with the Miami Dolphins. The former Patriots edge defender is expected to sign with the Detroit Lions when National Football League free agency begins on Wednesday. According to The Athletic's Connor Hughes, Flowers shortened his list to the Lions and Dolphins before ultimately choosing Detroit. Flowers' five-year deal has been advertised at north of $80 million in total dollars. Given the Lions long list of Patriots ties, bringing in Amendola was a no-brainer for GM Bob Quinn. Flowers will immediately fill the role Ansah was supposed to play.
