Facebook and Instagram Down: Twitter Wins the Day With Hilarious Reactions

Facebook and Instagram experienced an hourslong outage across the US on Wednesday, and throngs of social media-savvy citizens experienced an existential crisis. "We're working to resolve the issue as soon as possible", Facebook tweeted.

By about 5 p.m., most issues had been resolved. "We're focused on working to resolve the issue as soon as possible, but can confirm that the issue is not related to a DDoS attack", the social media giant wrote.

Facebook users have taken to Twitter to share that the social media network is allegedly completely down.

Those on Instagram were not able to refresh feeds or post new material.

The outages on Facebook, Messenger and Instagram began around noon and continued more than eight hours later.

The outages appeared to be concentrated in the Americas and Europe.

On the image-sharing site Instagram, one of the most popular social networks among Israelis, users were having trouble reading and posting, though the website seemed worse affected than mobile apps.

The company said the cause of the outage that has affected users globally has not yet been established.

Reports of problems with Facebook peaked at over 11,000 worldwide according to Downdetector, a website where users can report problems on apps and websites. As of 4:45 EDT service was restored to some but other users were still reporting problems.

Our Facebook and Instagram haven't been working either.

Outages for large internet platforms like Facebook or YouTube aren't unusual, but in the past they have typically restored service within an hour or two.
