BJP releases election manifesto, vows to strip Kashmiris of special rights

According to the manifesto, the party will scrap Article 35A, a decades-old law providing special rights to the residents of Jammu and Kashmir state."We believe that Article 35A is an obstacle in the development of the state", the party's manifesto said of the law that prevents non-residents from buying property in the state.

With the Congress manifesto putting major thrust on welfare measures, including a promise of giving ₹72,000 to the poorest 20% households in India, the ruling party is likely to make a slew of promises to woo different sections of the society, especially farmers, youth and women, besides the downtrodden.

The Hindu nationalist party said it will pass a controversial citizenship bill that would grant Indian nationality to Hindus from neighbouring countries. "Hence, we have set out 75 goals to be achieved by 2022".

Ahead of a general election that starts next week, the Election Commission of India (ECI) says it is swamped with hundreds of thousands of such questions and complaints of alleged violation of election rules, known as the model code of conduct.

The saffron party also promised to implement the NRC (National Register of Citizens) in a phased manner in various parts of the country.

The aim is to integrate the state more closely with the rest of the country.
