The launch was an important for SpaceX as this was only the second time the Falcon Heavy has launched and the first with a paying customer.

In a 2018 test mission, the rocket's core booster missed the vessel and crashed into the Atlantic Ocean.

Arabsat-6A is a large satellite, weighing 6,460-kilograms.

The webcast should begin about 20 minutes before the rocket's anticipated liftoff.

The Falcon Heavy's liftoff from Launch Complex 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center created a spectacle, just as it did during the maiden launch.

SpaceX has delayed the launch of its newest mega rocket because of dangerously high wind.

The rocket is expected to be used primarily for USA military missions, and to launch spy satellites and hefty commercial telecom satellites.

SpaceX said it would try again Thursday evening.

"The Falcons have landed", Musk said in a tweet that included pictures of all three boosters.

Eight minutes after liftoff, SpaceX landed two of the first-stage boosters back at Cape Canaveral, side by side, just like it did for the rocket's debut past year.

In Falcon Heavy's first launch, in February 2018, a dummy dubbed Starman was placed behind the wheel of Musk's roadster, which is now orbiting the Sun somewhere between Earth and Mars. SpaceX is expected to attempt to land all three this week.

Falcon Heavy carried a communications satellite forSaudi-based telecom firm Arabsat, which will beam internet and television services over Africa, Europe and the Middle East.

At 34 minutes after takeoff, the Arabsat-6A satellite was deployed to orbit in what was the Falcon Heavy's first commercial mission.

That was back when SpaceX was still expected to test Falcon Heavy later that same year. SpaceX chief operating officer Gwynne Shotwell flew to Saudi Arabiato reassure them that the Falcon Heavy would be reliable. SpaceX then recovered all three of the boosters back on Earth, achieving a feat it wasn't able to pull off in the rocket's demonstration flight past year. It's been made even more powerful since last year's demo flight through upgrades that SpaceX refers to as Block 5, which were applied to the company's smaller Falcon 9 rocket starting in May. The U.S. Air Force also chose Falcon Heavy for STP-2, its Space Test Program 2 mission. The Falcon Heavy is essentially three of those single rockets strapped together.
