Trump is set to host South Korean President Moon Jae-in at the White House later on Thursday, seeking to rekindle dialogue with the North.
Noting that "the Hanoi Summit is not actually - was not a source of disappointment, but it is actually the part of a bigger process that will lead us to a bigger agreement", Moon said that efforts need to be made so as to "maintain the momentum of dialogue and also express the positive outlook, regarding the third U.S".
Externally, however, Pyongyang has been stressing the importance of "self-reliance" after talks on denuclearisation with Washington broke down in Vietnam in February. The two sides gave different reasons for the abrupt end in talks.
Pyongyang said it had pushed for limited sanctions relief in exchange for dismantling its main nuclear facility at Yongbyon.
