Sony has announced that its long-requested PSN ID change feature is finally seeing a release on PlayStation 4 today. Select "Account Management", "Account Information", "Profile", and then "Online ID".

Online ID changes are not available to PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Vita gamers. For PlayStation Plus members, it will cost $4.99 USD/ CAD for each change after the first one.

Enter your new online ID or select one of the suggestions. However, you can revert to an older handle for free at any time, and Sony also says your old IDs will never be up for grabs.

All PS4 users with non-child accounts can change their ID, either through the PS4 or a web browser.

Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the change. That said, Sony does not guarantee all games fully support the feature.

Sony announced that PSN ID changes were finally coming to the PS4, after being lobbied for literally years. As such, be wary of what older games you play after changing and be absolutely sure you want to change it before doing so. Reverting back to an old name is possible and doesn't cost any money.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has mentioned this new rule under PSN name change section on the official support website.

Overall this feature somehow lowers the chances of players getting banned.

Q: Why is it that only games published after April 1, 2018 were developed to support online ID change? The online ID can be changed via a web browser for those who find that faster. The list includes much more games so be prepared for some issues if you change your name and are still active on those titles. PlayStation recommends reading its list of tested games to check if the feature is supported as well as if it may cause any other issues.

The potential problems are broken up into two tiers: "issues" and "critical issues". For example, players may face trophy progress being halted, losing save data, access to digital currency in purchased games, DLC content becoming unavailable, and some games becoming unavailable both online and offline.
