Leading up to the race, Maximum Security held 8-1 odds to win the race and was widely considered one of the favorites to win. That left two byproducts of note.

Country House was declared the victor of the 145th running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on Saturday following "an inquiry ruling" and the disqualification of Maximum Security, officials said. The referees said Maximum Security interfered with several other horses midway through the final turn.

Country House finished second in the slop before an objection was raised, causing a lengthy delay while stewards repeatedly reviewed several angles of video footage before he was elevated into the winner's circle.

Servis said he did not have a good view of the alleged foul.

It was the first disqualification in the history of the race. He appeared to win by 13/4 lengths in 2:03.93. The track conditions were listed as sloppy.

Maximum Security closed as a favorite at 9-2, and more than $6.2 million was bet on the colt.

The Kentucky Derby may be nicknamed "the greatest two minutes in sports", but the conversation surrounding the outfits and hats at the annual race lasts way more than that.

"I don't think anybody wants to win that way", Mott told The Washington Post.

Flavien Prat earned his first Kentucky Derby victory on Country House, which gave trainer William Mott his first win in the Run for the Roses.
