Durham, US attorney in ct, has been tapped by Barr to examine special counsel Robert Mueller's probe's inception, the New York Times reported, citing two people familiar with the matter.

"I think spying did occur", Barr said during a hearing before the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Attorney General William Barr has assigned a federal prosecutor in CT to examine the origins of the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, according to a new report. "An informant working for USA intelligence posed as a Cambridge University research assistant in September 2016 to try to probe George Papadopoulos, then a Trump foreign policy adviser, on the campaign's possible ties to Russian Federation, it emerged earlier this month".

"The lead agent in charge of investigating this said he thought Trump would be destabilizing, had an insurance policy (in case Trump was elected) and then promised his lover that we will stop it", he said.

"I think spying on a political campaign is a big deal", he said.

Mr Barr, 68, acted after telling Congress a month ago that he believed "spying did occur" by USA intelligence services on the Trump campaign.
