Huawei is set to play a role in Britain's 5G future but the firm's United Kingdom vice president told Sky News he will go the "extra mile" to prove it is a secure option.
"China's main export is espionage, and the distinction between the Chinese Communist Party and Chinese "private-sector" businesses like Huawei is imaginary", Republican Senator Ben Sasse said.
The ban will not name any specific companies, but will direct the U.S. Department of Commerce to draft enforcement rules for it. USA justice and intelligence officials say Chinese economic espionage and trade secret theft is rampant.
"Given the threats presented by certain foreign companies' equipment and services, this is a significant step toward securing America's networks", he said.
"Despite the fact Huawei has its headquarters in China, we are actually a globally operating company", he said.
