It’s been a while since we heard anything about BioWare’s new game, Anthem, and the only thing we know so far is about it is everything detailed to us at E3 – which wasn’t much.
Aside from a few story tidbits, the fact you play as a Freelancer and you wear an exo-suit called a Javelin, we’re a little in the dark as to what the game will be – apart from co-op MMO looking to rival Destiny 2, of course.
“Mass Effect is more a real hard core science fiction IP”.
Anthem is a game where players will “see a lot of fantastic things happening, but [BioWare doesn’t] worry too much about why they’re happening, or how they’re happening”. During the brief interview, Flynn likened Anthem to Star Wars in terms that it is “science-fantasy” as opposed to hardcore “science-fiction” like Mass Effect. According to Flynn, Anthem will take a more Star Wars-like approach and let you do cool stuff without making you read a technical manual.
One of the most exciting and intriguing reveals of this year’s E3 was BioWare’s Anthem. He also expanded on some of the gameplay: “there are shooting mechanics in it, it’s an action game, it’s a role playing game”. Anthem is a social game where you and your friends go on quests and journeys. It appears Anthem will just be a game where things are as they are, and BioWare won’t really feel the need to explain every single detail about the player’s world – unlike what it did with Mass Effect. We have LGBTQ members and those stories make their way into the games.
Anthem is expected to release some time next year for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
