Captured Georgia inmates make first court appearance

The inmates were caught following a auto chase in Tennessee, one state to the north of Georgia, Georgia Governor Nathan Deal said on Twitter.

“The homeowner was alerted somehow, he looked outside and saw the suspects trying to steal his vehicle”, Lt. Bill Miller from the Tennessee Highway Patrol said late Thursday.

Two inmates who escaped from a Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) prisoner transport earlier this week were captured tonight in Tennessee following a high speed vehicle chase.

“As a precaution, law enforcement officers were stationed up and down in the vicinity of the interstate as a precaution, just in case”, Jones said.

Officers arrested Donnie Rowe and Ricky Dubose in Christina, Tennessee, that effectively ended a nationwide manhunt for the pair after they escaped Tuesday.

Deal said the public is safe from these two men because of the tireless efforts of law enforcement.

Sgt. Christopher Monica and Sgt. Curtis Billue were overpowered and disarmed, then shot to death. “We will do everything in our power to support their loved ones, and we will not forget their sacrifice and service”, he added.

GBI Director Vernon Keenan said Dubose and Rowe walked out of the woods with their hands up and told the homeowner “they wanted to give up because the police had them surrounded”.

They have been cellmates a couple of times in Georgia’s prisons, had known each other for “quite a while” and may have planned the escape together, Department of Corrections Assistant Commissioner Ricky Myrick said. Authorities say Dubose and Rowe escaped after killing two prison guards during a bus transport in Georgia.

They ultimately left the truck in Tennessee and stole a white sedan, which they abandoned near the hostages’ home, Swing said.

At that point, the fugitives left in the couple’s other vehicle, a Jeep Cherokee, Swing said.

The man and woman “are lucky they’re alive”, Bedford County Sheriff Austin Swing said.

Two escaped inmates from Georgia have been captured after a chase in Tennessee, Thursday evening. Donnie Russell Rowe, 42, and Ricky Dubose, 24, were caught after a auto chase, reports the AP.

The two had been on the run since Tuesday, when they escaped at about 6:45 a.m.

Monica, 42, and Billue, 58, were both transfer sergeants at Baldwin State Prison.

Sills thanked the Rutherford and Bedford County sheriff’s offices and all local and federal agencies that worked to apprehend the men. Gwyn was not immediately sure who would collect the reward. By the time of Thursday night’s arrest, the rewards for the two had grown to $130,000.

Nathan Deal confirmed the capture of Donnie Rowe, 43, and Ricky DuBose, 24, via Twitter.

The men will be booked into the Rutherford County jail in Murfreesboro. This homeowner and his neighbor held the two suspects until authorities arrived and were able to successfully capture them. Sgt. Christopher Monica and Sgt. Curtis Billue were fatally shot.

By about 5 p.m. they were on the run again, in the couple’s Jeep.

A photograph posted on the website of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution showed the two suspects handcuffed and lying on the ground shirtless with about a dozen law enforcement personnel surrounding them.
