Dennis Rodman Is Back In North Korea, ‘Trying To Open A Door’

Any visit by a high-profile American is a political minefield and Rodman has been criticized for failing to use his influence on leaders who are otherwise isolated diplomatically from the rest of the world.

TMZ reports that Dennis Rodman arrived in Pyongyang on June 13, 2017.

Rodman has said he is trying to “accomplish” something both he and President Trump need through this visit.

The basketball Hall of Famer has faced ridicule and criticism for his trips to North Korea, which some USA politicians and activists view as serving only as fodder for North Korean propaganda.

“I’m just trying to open the door”, the eccentric former Chicago Bulls forward said at Beijing airport before boarding his Air Koryo flight. He adds, “Though Rodman appeared on Trump’s reality show and endorsed him for president, analysts don’t think he is acting as a back channel conduit between the two countries”. “He’s smart in many ways; he’s very street-wise”. Rodman, who was met at the airport by North Korean Vice Minister of Sports Son Kwang Ho, is expected to be in North Korea until Saturday.

Dennis Rodman has made several trips to the mysterious country as he claims the tyrannical leader is a “good kid” – but what else is he famous for? In a 2014 interview with Business Insider, Rodman shared his perception of Kim Jong Un.

The former National Basketball Association player is travelling as a private citizen.

During a tearful court appearance in February 2016, Warmbier apologized for his actions in North Korea.

“I don’t want people to look at me as the devil or evil person”, Rodman said.

One of Rodman’s previous trips to North Korea was sponsored by an Irish betting company.

In Tokyo, a visiting senior USA official said Rodman is making the trip as a private citizen.

Rodman stopped in Beijing en route to Pyongyang on Tuesday afternoon and told reporters he was “hoping to do something pretty positive”. The unlikely pair ended the evening with drinks and dining on sushi.

While the U.S.is aware of the current visit, Rodman is acting as a private citizen. The global community has repeatedly rebuked repeated missile tests by the North and the United States has responded by testing new anti-missile systems.

It was previously reported that the country is also holding four Americans for various alleged crimes. Tillerson said the department continued to discuss three other detained Americans with North Korea.

The University of Virginia student, Otto Warmbier, had been sentenced to 15 years hard labor after being convicted in Pyongyang for acts against the state.

North Korean state media has posted nothing on either Warmbier or Dennis Rodman’s visit. State Department officials are accompanying Otto from Sapporo to Cincinnatti. “We get to see our son Otto tonight”.

The Warmbiers were told that he had come down with a case of botulism soon after his trial – which lasted only one hour – and had been given a sleeping pill, from which he never woke up. “We learned of this only one week ago”.

Cindy and Fred Warmbier denounced North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un, and his regime.
