Fellow Republicans press Donald Trump about Comey tapes

– One day after former FBI Director James Comey testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee, President Trump offered a response to the testimony on Twitter.

The “collusion” reference is apparently to the White House’s long-running contention that there is no evidence Trump’s campaign colluded with Russian attempts to undermine the election.

Comey on Thursday told the Senate Intelligence Committee that he was sacked by Trump in May over his handling of alleged Russian meddling in the U.S. election and possible ties between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin.

‘I hardly know the man.

“I can definitively say that the president is not a liar, and frankly I’m insulted by that question”, Sanders said at a White House press briefing.

“Well, I’ll tell you about that maybe sometime in the very near future”, he said at a joint press conference with his Romanian counterpart. If there aren’t tapes, he should let that be known.

Comey, who was sacked by Trump in May, did not make any major disclosures about any links between Trump or his associates and alleged Russian meddling.

Meanwhile, the House Intelligence Committee is formally asking the White House whether it possesses any “recordings or memoranda” of Trump’s conversations with Comey. “He’s a leaker“, Trump said of Comey. “I’m not going to say, ‘I want you to pledge allegiance’”.

Asked if he were trying to hint at something, the president replied, “I’ll tell you about it over a short period of time”.

“Some of the things he said just weren’t true”, Trump said, adding he is “100 percent” willing to “speak under oath” to give his version of those events.

Trump also accused Comey of providing a false account of the “loyalty pledge” incident.

The fired director also confirmed that he provided memos that detailed his meetings with Trump to a close friend, who in turn forwarded the notes to The New York Times.

“You are going to be very disappointed when you hear the answer”, he said a bit cryptically.

During a news conference Friday, Trump said he’d have more information related to whether tapes exist at a later date. Are there tapes, sir?

Comey said he had hoped releasing the information via the media would prompt the appointment of a special counsel to handle the Russian Federation probe, a ploy that ultimately proved successful. The visit was the first for Iohannis at the Trump White House. “I woke up in the middle of the night on Monday night because it didn’t dawn on me originally, that there might be corroboration for our conversation”, Comey said.

The first interaction that the president had with Mr. Comey in early January at Trump Tower, it was the Federal Bureau of Investigation director who cleared the room so that he could have a one- on-one discussion with the president about that salacious dossier.
