The Rob-aissance? Whatever you want to describe it as, Robert Pattinson is fast becoming one of the most interesting actors of his generation.
“Good Time” finds Pattinson teaming up with NY indie darlings Josh and Benny Safdie, whose last feature, “Heaven Knows What“, earned acclaim on the global film circuit. With Good Time, however, Pattinson may have taken his acting chops up another notch as a bank robber who’s determined to save his mentally disabled brother (Benny Safdie) from harm.
The new Good Time trailer from A24 showcases the film’s stylish look, all neon-drenched and noirish, with frenzied cutting that plays up the film’s hectic ticking-clock format. Indeed, it may still be a stretch, though Good Time – the NY siblings’ latest eye-popping, pill-popping, attention-deficit character study – could feasibly be described as just that. The crime-thriller also stars Jennifer Jason Leigh and Barkhad Abdi. Trying to stump up the bail money to get him out, Connie is faced with one frenzied night that descends into violence and madness, knowing all the while that both of their lives hang in the balance. The rave reviews for Pattinson in this film – which some say is the best performance of his career – are encouraging too. “You’re gonna have a good time“.
