The long-term challenge for the National Basketball Association is how to address the on-going grumblings about a lack of competitive balance.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been saying they’re a better team when their backs are against the wall. In nearly any situation, this should be enough currency to give any team a puncher’s chance.
The Cavaliers like to play a more rugged game using the size and strength of James, Love and Tristan Thompson to their advantage.
He also produced what will likely go down as the signature moment of this series when he hit a 3-pointer over LeBron James with 45 seconds left in Game 3 that gave the Warriors the lead for good and all but sealed the Cavaliers’ fate.
Opinions about these Warriors and competitive balance will run the gamut.
The historic marks set by Durant are multiple.
After getting his own back this time around, Durant said: ” He averaged a triple-double – you just can’t stop the guy – but we got him. However, that doesn’t mean the Warriors won’t choose to do just that in the near future.
Myers realizes adding Durant might not have worked so well with anyone but the Warriors.
“I agree with that description, if you remove the ‘et, ‘” Curry said, in response to Plank calling President Trump an “asset”.
“I couldn’t sleep for two days”, Durant told reporter Doris Burke. “That’s cool for me to talk about it on Instagram or Twitter“, Durant said. “So I just tried to stay with those principles and keep grinding”. Durant has done so much to please and to contradict those around him.
James had a spectacular series, averaging 33.6 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists but it wasn’t enough. Without their best player, the Warriors would have had more difficulty matching up with James and Kyrie Irving.
Having added Durant last off-season to the talents of Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green among others, it was perhaps hardly surprising they should sweep all before them. “He continued to do that from the beginning to the end”. “There was never any question in my mind that this was going to work”. But alongside the rest of these Warriors, each unresolved problem only bleeds into the next. “You’ve got to call Kevin Durant a champ now”.
This is a team, first and foremost, steeped in defense. Pretty much all their big-name guys are in their 20s, and they don’t show any signs of slowing down.
The Warriors became the first Bay Area team to capture a championship at home since the A’s finished the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 5 of the 1974 World Series. In doing so, even though the Warriors may have taken the easier path, it was never a shortcut.
STEPHANIE ABBATI: They play unselfish basketball every night, in and out, and I think that’s why they are so wonderful.
James said he had no reason to feel sorry for himself. “They’re so fast, they get out in transition”.
Golden State still used the season as a process, putting in the repetitions to flawless its craft. They always change. The Warriors won’t be the same when Commissioner Adam Silver hands them their rings next October (when the league’s longer season created to give more rest over the 82-game span) begins.
“We sacrifice from top to bottom”.
A tweet claiming that the National Basketball Association champion Golden State Warriors would refuse to meet with President Donald Trump at the White House went viral Tuesday, despite presenting zero evidence. “Period. That’s all it’s about”.
“I hear all the narratives throughout the season that I was joining, I was hopping on the bandwagon, I was letting everybody else do the work”, Durant said. Nobody will have the same 15 players they ended the season with. That’s what makes them special.
