Meet the World’s Ugliest Dog, 3-year-old Martha!

Meet the World’s Ugliest Dog, 3-year-old Martha!

The event was held in Petaluma, California, and attracted a large audience of appreciative fans.

14 contestants vied for the prize but only one would be given the honor to be called the world’s ugliest dog.

Last year, Sweepee Rambo, a 17-year-old blind Chihuahua, won the 2016 World’s Ugliest Dog. When Martha is not asleep – as she is most of the day – she playfully bosses around the other dogs Zindler fosters. Who knows?! She could be the next Grumpy Cat Dog, right?! The victor gets $1,500, a trophy and a flight to NY for media appearances.

After several surgeries, she can see again, said her handler Shirley Zindler. She has undergone two eye surgeries and stomach surgery.

If you sometimes feel less than satisfied with your appearance, spare a thought for poor Peanut, who has been officially named the world’s ugliest dog. It was unusual for the relatively young and active Martha to win against older dogs with unusual attributes, such as their tongues sticking out.

The content aims to raise awareness for the adoption of dogs “no matter their physical distractions“, according to the fair’s website.

Coming in second place was a 16-year-old Brussels Griffon-pug mixed named Moe, who lost his sight and hearing.

Many other competitors were adopted and rescued, among them were Icky, an 8-year-old unknown breed and Monkey, a 6-year-old Brussels Griffon. Moe is deaf and blind, and was the oldest pup in the competition.

Dane Andrew of Sunnyvale, Calif., holds up his dog, Rascal, a Chinese crested, before the start of the World’s Ugliest Dog Contest at the Sonoma-Marin Fair Friday, June 23, 2017, in Petaluma, Calif. It has been a part of the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma annually for 29 years.

The annual match was underway and one by one the dogs were presented.
