New Orleans police: 2 men robbed, beaten in French Quarter

Two men visiting New Orleans from out of town were beaten and robbed Saturday night in the French Quarter, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Two men, ages 32 and 19, were sitting in a vehicle in the 1900 block of Gallier Street in the Upper 9 Ward about 1:52 a.m. when a man demanded they get out of the auto and leave their phones, police said. NOPD said the age of the man in critical condition is unknown.

Police say Brister and his unidentified 44-year-old brother were talking when he began firing several shots from a handgun before his brother drove off. Police say Brister chased the victim but lost him.

The four robbers run away moments later as they throw the first victim, who appears dazed, to the ground. A second suspect got out, also armed with an assault rifle, at which point the woman complied and the suspects fled, according to NOPD.

The victims were taken to the hospital where one of them is listed in critical condition, police said.
