Retracted CNN story a boon for president at war with media

On Thursday, CNN published a story from investigative reporter Thomas Frank about an investigation into possible ties between Trump associates and a Russian investment fund. The story posted Thursday on CNN’s website said Senate investigators are looking into the meeting between Scaramucci and Kirill Dmitriev, whose Russian Direct Investment Fund guides investments by USA entities in Russia.

The CNN issue enables the White House to change the subject for what has been a rough stretch for the presidency, with constant questions about the Russian Federation probe and a vote on the Republican health care bill delayed.

She said the “constant barrage of fake news” at the president has frustrated Trump.

President Donald Trump meant to appoint Scaramucci to be Director of the White House Office of Public Liaison and Intergovernmental Affairs in January.

CNN said in a statement that the article did not meet the network’s editorial standards.

“Presdient Trump and CNN both needed a correction Tuesday morning during a Twitter spat in their long-running, mutually beneficial public feud”, Jason Silverstein with the New York Daily News commented.

The resignations are a sign of the stakes for CNN.

Overall, cable news networks continue to post higher ratings since the presidential election last November.

A month earlier, the network was called out for using a Democratic National Committee tied spin doctor to debunk stories circulating about the death of DNC staffer Seth Rich.

“And the CEO of CNN (Jeff Zucker) said in our internal meeting, he said good job everybody covering the climate accords, but we’re done with that, let’s get back to Russian Federation”.

Trump tweeted that “they caught Fake News CNN cold”.

CNN hasn’t said, but we can gather some clues from a copy of the story that’s been accidentally preserved on the website of a local TV station in NY.

In an undercover video, a CNN Supervising Producer is captured stating that the network’s constant coverage of alleged, yet still unproven, Russian Federation and Trump collusion is all about ratings.

He even goes on essentially vindicated Trump by saying, “I think the President is probably right to say, like, look you are witch hunting have no real proof”.

O’Keefe told The Associated Press that Project Veritas got the video on Friday and that a portion, in an elevator, was recorded at CNN’s headquarters. The law firm of one victim recently sued O’Keefe, alleging violation of a federal wiretap law.

Project Veritas released a hidden-camera video showing the producer, John Bonfield, admitting: “I mean, it’s mostly bullshit right now”. Read the CNN retracted story. “CNN apologises to Mr Scaramucci”.

The development is a blow for CNN, which announced at the start of the year the creation of a new investigation unit in order to compete with the New York Times and Washington Post, as well as Politico and the Wall Street Journal which have beefed up their investigative teams to cover the new Trump administration. “Yelling “fake news” is unfair”.
