The unprecedented development will make Sharif the first incumbent to appear before such a panel, let alone one probing allegations of financial irregularities or fraud against almost his entire family, going back three generations, Dawn newspaper reported.
It is propagated that Sharif family is being targeted by JIT without any reason, application remarked.
To yet another question she said that the banners displayed by Islamabad Mayor in the federal capital a couple of weeks back did not have any link with Panama Papers or JIT, and were only meant to hail the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for hosting the summit conference of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO). The JIT told that not only had some governmental departments were showing reluctance in handing over relevant records but some records had also been tampered with.
On Monday, Justice Khan suggested that Hussain Nawaz’s counsel Khawaja Haris Ahmed go through the JIT’s report on the photo leak. However, the bench ruled that constitution permits video recording of the interrogation session under Section 162.
The JIT has already summoned the Prime Minister, who will appear before it on tomorrow at Islamabad’s Judicial Academy – which has temporarily been turned into the JIT’s secretariat. However, the apex court in its April 20 verdict in the Panamagate case allowed the JIT to probe all such material against the family.
The report also mentioned that the parent department has confirmed that a departmental inquiry has been completed and necessary action has been taken against the person responsible. Stating that its proceedings were brief and limited, the JIT maintained that despite receiving a summons to appear on May 28 with all the relevant record, Hussain Nawaz appeared without any papers and refused to answer any questions put to him that day on the pretext that the matter was sub judice before the apex court and asked the JIT to summon him some other day.
The JIT’s work has become highly politicised in recent weeks.
