Special counsel Mueller investigating Trump for obstruction of justice

U.S. President Donald Trump has mocked FBI investigators of not being able to find any evidence related to the probe of a possible collusion between his team and Russian Federation during 2016 Presidential election.

A Trump confidant said this week the president had considered firing Mueller. The White House has denied any collusion. Any such step would face a steep hurdle as it would require approval by the U.S. House of Representatives, which is controlled by Trump’s fellow Republicans. His investigation is still in a relatively early phase, and it is unclear if any criminal charges will be brought when it is complete, the Post pointed out.

Comey used his his three-hour testimony before the Senate intelligence committee last week to launch a blistering takedown of Trump, calling him a liar no less than five times.

Democrats challenged Rosenstein on whether he would appoint a special prosecutor to look into Russia’s election meddling. Mr. Kushner previously volunteered to share with Congress what he knows about Russia-related matters.

But it was released shortly after The Washington Post reported – citing unnamed U.S. officials familiar with the matter – that the business dealings of President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, are being investigated by Justice Department special counsel Robert Mueller, who has been investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 election and the Trump administration’s potential ties to Russia.

“Crooked H destroyed phones w/ hammer, “bleached” emails, & had husband meet w/AG days before she was cleared- & they talk about obstruction?” This confirmation came after he thrice reassured Trump of his (Trump’s) non-involvement in the matter. Two months later, at Trump’s urging, Rosenstein wrote a letter to the president detailing his belief that Comey should be fired. However, the decision was not unanimous as general counsel James A Baker voiced his disagreement. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said on Capitol Hill that Donald Trump will “self-impeach”. He subsequently appointed Mueller as special counsel for the investigation into Russian efforts to interfere in the 2016 election.

“I think he’s weighing that option”, he said of Trump.

Comey’s assurances to Trump for a second and third time could not change Baker’s views. In a statement, the National Security Agency said it “will fully cooperate with the special counsel”, but declined to comment further.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday confirmed he is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for firing ousted Director James Comey.

Comey told a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing last week Trump spoke to him privately on several occasions and insinuated he wanted the Flynn investigation dropped.

“A special counsel investigating the president of the United States must first and foremost be beyond the question of conflict”, he said.

They are former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, his business partner Rick Gates, a national security adviser Carter Page, retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn and informal Trump adviser Roger Stone. Still, the snowballing investigation has deeply angered Trump, who denies he has any nefarious ties to Russian Federation.

HORSLEY: And the memo was all about the way Comey dealt with the email investigation of Hillary Clinton past year.

The transition official said the organization has also separately asked the General Services Administration to preserve records from the Trump transition that were transferred to its facilities after Trump’s inauguration.
