Trump has repeatedly dismissed the investigations and reports that he is one of the targets of the probes as “a witch hunt“. The Post’s report was confirmed by five anonymous sources, and Trump himself tweeted on Friday that he was being “investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!”
Sekulow’s comments, in an interview with “Face the Nation“, came after Mr. Trump slammed reports that FBI Special Counsel Robert Mueller is reviewing whether or not Mr. Trump tried to obstruct justice amid ongoing investigations into any ties between his presidential campaign’s or transition’s associates and the Russian government.
“The president is not under investigation by the special counsel”, said Sekulow.
“He’s not afraid of the investigation – there is no investigation“, Sekulow added. “The president is not and has not been under investigation for obstruction”.
A USA official who is familiar with the rough outlines of the probe and who spoke on condition of anonymity told Reuters on Thursday that Mueller was also examining whether Trump or others tried to interfere with the investigation.
It is common for subjects of federal investigations not to know they are under scrutiny, especially in the initial phases. Notification is often provided if a person has become a “target”, meaning that charges could be imminent, but is not generally provided at the early stages of an investigation.
In a two-part tweet posted before 7 a.m., Trump wrote: “The MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN agenda is doing very well despite the distraction of the Witch Hunt”.
“There’s a limitation on Twitter, as we all know”, he said. Mueller was later appointed as special counselor. The memo that the White House at first said was critical to the decision, before Trump suggested it was irrelevant because his mind was already made up. “The best thing that could happen for the president, and the country, is a full and credible investigation”.
Rubio says: “If it involved working with Americans, whether wittingly or unwittingly, that needs to be part of” the investigation.
Trump would later fire Comey, saying at first that he had done so on the recommendation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein, but later admitted that he had chose to fire Comey prior to hearing from the Justice Department and that he had done so because of his frustration about the Russian Federation investigation.
And Senate intelligence committee member Sen.
By the Fox News Sunday leg of the morning, the wheels were coming off the wagon for Sekulow and the *non-investigation* investigation into Trump. Schiff spoke on ABC’s “This Week” and King spoke on NBC. Angus King of ME, an independent who caucuses with the Democrats. “There’s a lot of information yet to go”.
Yet Trump’s tweets in recent days condemning the actions of his own Justice Department have reached an intense level, revealing the president’s increasing agitation about the probe and the attention it has drawn.
TAPPER: Well, I wish it were that simple but, with all due respect, the president said, “I am being investigated” in a tweet, and people take his word on that, but you’re his attorney – you’re saying that the president, when he said that, was… not accurate. Last week he described the concerns about Russian influence in USA elections as a “phony” story.
