Trump confirms he’s under federal investigation, fires angry tweets

Rosenstein in a memo to Trump raised concerns over FBI Director James Comey.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the deputy White House press secretary, referred questions about Trump’s tweet to the President’s private attorney, Marc Kasowitz.

Mr. Trump maintains he never colluded with Russian Federation and the investigation was “fake news“. But soon after the abrupt termination, Trump told NBC News that he was going to fire Comey, regardless of any recommendations.

However, it could also be read to say that he had learned he was under investigation and was expressing frustration over that fact.

Trump’s tweets come after the top lawyer for his transition team warned the organization’s officials to preserve all records and other materials related to the Russian Federation probe.

“The message the president is sending through his tweets is that he believes the rule of law doesn’t apply to him and that anyone who thinks otherwise will be fired”, Feinstein said in her statement.

The transition official spoke on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to discuss post-election decisions publicly.

The New York Times has gone to court to try to get copies of documents created by fired Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey after his conversations with President Donald Trump.

The Washington Post reported this week that Mueller is investigating whether Trump attempted to obstruct justice when he suggested Comey drop an FBI investigation into Michael Flynn, Trump’s former national security adviser, as well as when he fired Comey.

President Donald Trump appeared to confirm in a tweet on Friday that he is under investigation for firing former FBI Director James Comey and blamed what he called a “Witch Hunt” on “the man who told me to fire” Comey – a possible reference to the deputy attorney general.

Mueller was appointed as special counsel to investigate Russian involvement in the 2016 presidential election and possible collusion by Trump campaign associates with the Russians, but there has been no indication that Mueller told Trump to fire Comey.

A representative for Trump’s lawyer promptly reacted to the allegation.

Feinstein noted that Trump does not actually have the authority to fire Mueller, and that any effort to appoint a replacement for Rosenstein with an eye toward shutting down the investigation would result in a “rude awakening” for the President.

The Washington Post reported Wednesday that the investigators were looking into possible obstruction of justice.
