Trump says Congressman Scalise ‘in some trouble’ after shooting

He underwent another surgery today at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, the statement adds, and his condition has been upgraded from critical to serious.

Fox News commentator Sean Hannity watched Republicans and Democrats come together on the baseball diamond Thursday night for the Congressional Baseball Game that followed Wednesday morning’s frightening shooting as the Republican team practiced at a ball field in Alexandria, Virginia.

The annual matchup between Republicans and Democrats will be held one day after Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-Louisiana) and three others were shot at a practice session for the game.

The popular annual face-off, which raises money for charity, is scheduled to go forward as planned Thursday evening at Nationals Park in Washington.

Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona, who was at Wednesday’s practice and gave medical help after the shooting, said it would have “been awful” if the game had been canceled, and said Scalise would want it to go on.

Capitol Police, who provided security for Scalise during the practice, killed the shooter, identified by authorities as James Hodgkinson, 66, from Belleville, Ill. The shooter was an IL man, James Hodgkinson, who had lashed out against President Donald Trump and Republicans over social media. Press secretary Sean Spicer said “there is not enough time to follow Secret Service protocols” to ensure Trump’s safety, but the president visited Scalise in the hospital on Wednesday.

The Congressional Baseball Game for Charity sold more than 20,000 tickets and raised more than $1 million for charity.

It was unclear whether he had emerged from surgery as of mid-day Thursday. “It’s bipartisan, it’s a charity, for crying out loud, it’s in Washington D.C., we’ll be able to honor Scalise and those others who have hurt”.

Describing themselves as “much tougher” and “resilient” after the attack that united them in the way only survivors of mass shootings know too well, members separated themselves from yesterday’s tragedies and zoned in on the game.

Trump added, “We pray for all of the victims of this bad crime who are still recovering, including Zachary Barth and Matt Mika, both of whom are respected and cherished by so many”. “I’m prayerful he will pull through, and I hope he does”, he said. It was his 11th time suiting up for the game, but he says this game was different.

The crowd was a mix of Democrats and Republicans.

US President Donald Trump has called for unity in the wake of the horrific shooting incident in which a top Republican leader was injured, saying that despite differences the devotion to the country brings the people together. Players on both teams gathered in the infield before the game for a pre-game prayer.

DuBos tells Eyewitness News that responsibility could mean gaining support for bills, tallying up votes from lawmakers and reporting that information to the Speaker of the House.

According to officials briefed on the FBI investigation, the list included Rep. Trent Franks of Arizona, Rep. Jeff Duncan of South Carolina, Rep. Mo Brooks of Alabama and others who officials would not reveal.

“I’ll be the only third-base coach in America tonight on crutches”, he said with a wide grin.
