Under-fire Hart to sit out France game

Gareth Southgate finally chose to drop the Manchester United man after a disappointing season which saw his role reduced to little more than a bit part player at Old Trafford.

England manager Gareth Southgate probably always meant to sideline his keeper in favour of Stoke City’s Jack Butland for Tuesday’s friendly, but Hart’s display has now opened the way for a permanent challenge.

“I think there has to be a strong case for Jack Butland to get a chance against France this week and stake a claim”.

“For me, two moments of quality, but we will look at it”, he said.

Southgate said Kane would follow in the footsteps of Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson, now recovering from injury but who wore the armband in the manager’s first two matches in charge, against Malta and Slovenia last autumn. “There are many areas we could have done better”.

Gareth Southgate believes players in England teams at every level will feel they can win major tournaments after the Under-20 side’s triumph at the World Cup.

That move by Southgate, which will see Heaton start and Butland play the second half, consigns Forster to another bout on the substitutes’ bench alongside first choice Joe Hart, who will be rested for the Les Bleus match.

June 13, 2017 at 22:00, scheduled for an worldwide friendly match, which in Paris – Saint-Denis at the stadium “Stade de France” the French team will play against the national team of England.

It is a lot to ask of a player who, despite his monster transfer free, is still developing key parts of his game, but Southgate is not anxious about that.

“We’ll make some changes but I can’t say how many until we’ve assessed everybody”. We’ve had a couple of players that aren’t with us for this camp. We want competition for places’. I’m a calm character, not someone who gets too high and too low. That is not necessarily for him to go to Manchester United, although Jose Mourinho does rate him, but because it would start up the carousel; get goalkeepers moving. We’ve got some excellent players who have a lot of potential.

Southgate also stressed the importance of rotation to allow players to compete for places.

“I think it has been a good experience to develop other leaders”.

“I think at some point it is probably something we should do – in fact, I am certain it is something we should do – but I think it has been good to devolve the leadership”.
